The latest comedy film from Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg brings back the hilarious golden days of the American Pie series. Nearly, a decade after the last release from the series, ‘American Wedding’, the members of the terrorizing group of hormonally charged up teenagers, get together at the East Great Fall, Michigan. Almost a decade later, the group members are no longer teens, but mature adults, who do not mind getting together for a reminiscence of their glorious past, once in a while. As we watch American Reunion online, we find team members astonished to meet their friends, after so long. The first part of the film lights up present day lives of its members, with a stark contrast to their past. In a period of nine years, gang members, including Kevin, Finch, Michelle, Jim, Oz, Stiffler, Vicky, Heather, and Stiffler’s mom have undergone an immense transformation.

A comparison with their past reveals the recklessness that prevailed back then, as four school-kids embarked on a search for the perfect girl to lose their virginity. Download American Reunion to find the guys, now to have taken a backseat, in order to witness a high-school senior, Kara, trying to trace the most eligible guy around- someone on whom, she could depend on, to get herself deflowered with grace. The film holds up the ties that had changed with time, the ties that did not, and a fact that time is often to weak an element to affect relationships in any way. The equations in between Heather and Oz, Michelle and Jim, and Vicky and his love-interests, have changed over time. However, there also existed relations and bonds that did not, including Finch’s die-hard attraction towards Stiffler’s mom.  Friends for life, these grown-up pranksters get together, once again to revive their memorable, hilarious and sexually charged up past.

In July of 1999 audiences were introduced to American Pie, a movie that showcased the sexual frustrations of Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Christopher Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas); the four friends make a pact to lose their virginity by their Senior Prom. The breakout star of the film was Stifler, played by Sean William Scott, whose offensive and rude behavior was uproarious and solidified Stifler as one of the funniest characters in recent memory. The film went on to gross over $235 million dollars and was a surprise hit. In the two subsequent sequels (not including the direct to DVD films), the characters aged, but never matured; always finding themselves in precarious predicaments and as they grew up, we grew up right along with them. In the newest film, American Reunion, the whole gang returns home to East Great Falls, Michigan to celebrate their 10 year high school reunion, “13 years later”.

The writing team of Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, who’d done a more than admirable job on the Harold and Kumar films, were given writing and directing duties on American Reunion. I give both men credit for not trying to do too much and by sticking with the formula that made the prior movies so successful, because “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. Schlossberg and Hurwitz do a perfect job of putting the characters into situations many of us are all too familiar with; some due to getting older and others due to our own stupidity. Unlike The Hangover 2, which recycled the same plot from The Hangover, American Reunion continues the process of advancing the characters further into life. Yes, some of the jokes are rehashed; but sometimes no matter how much someone ages, they never grow up.

I’m pretty sure everyone has a friend like Jim, that did something when he was younger that was so ridiculous that he’d never live it down; ours goes by the name of Shmo and he’s proud to be that guy. There’s the friend that’s a jock like Oz, that would do anything to impress a girl; the friend like Kevin, that’s the pretty boy and thinks he’s destined to be with that one girl; the friend that’s the most mature of the bunch and acts a lot older than he actually is, much like Finch; and then there’s Stifler, the one guy that all he does is bust balls endlessly and is easily accepted as part of the group. I’d be willing to be I just described a good number of guys that hung out together growing up. Some of us even had a cool dad like Jim’s, played by Eugene Levy in every American Pie film including the direct to DVD movies. Although it took years for me to realize it, Eugene Levy is the moral compass of the franchise and gives a rock steady as well as laugh out loud performance each time out.

Similar to the previous three films, the strength lies in the believability of what the guys go through; reminiscent of experiences most lifelong friends may have gone through in life. That’s not to say that everything that happens in the films is plausible, but it is sure as hell funny watching it all unfold. American Reunion is vulgar, crude, filled with dirty jokes, nudity and all kinds of raunchy behavior…and I love every single last minute of it.

Next year will be my 20th year high school reunion, of which I won’t be going. I had a number of acquaintances while in high school, but no one that I’d call a true friend. The true friends I’ve had in life I’m happy to say are now life-long friends of mine. The time we spent together were great and over the years we’ve made a lot of memories; some low key ones such as sitting up all night playing video games or poker, and other outrageous drunken ones….okay, there were a lot of drunken ones, in which I was always the sober guys. In all the years that have passed, my core group of friends has always remained close and I’m thankful that we’ve all stayed in touch over the years. It’s movies like this and the others in the franchise that stir up memories and conversations that throughout the years are worth remembering, enjoying and laughing about 13, 25, or even 50 years later.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg’s latest comedy film comes as the eighth installment and the fourth linked-up feature from the original American Pie film series. Almost a decade after all the chaos at the American Wedding, the gang, once again assembles at East Great Falls, Michigan to spend a memorable weekend. The preliminary stages of the film focus on changes in lives of the gang members, after a period of nine years. It highlights the way life has been treating Heather, Jim, Michelle, Kevin, Oz, Finch, Vicky, Stiffler, and his mom. A stark comparison in the situations of the present situation with that of in the summers of 1999 is drawn in here. Back then, four guys were high on a desperate quest to lose their virginity, and now it seems, as if males have taken a backseat with this high school senior, Kara for the perfect guy tro deflower her with grace. Watch American Reunion online to find the gang members concluding on who has changed over the last nine years, who hasn’t and that time is too weak an element to oxidize bonds of true friendship.

Though, a lot of things like Jim and Michelle’s marital status, equations in between Oz and Heather, and Kevin and Vicky’s love-lives had changed with time, but there also remained feelings that nine years made no difference to. Stifler’s mom still had Finch going crazy for a bit of time with her. As we download American Reunion movie, we realize that these friends for life return as adults, who feel it’s the perfect time for all of them to plunge together in deep retrospection of their comic and hormonal past.

‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’, simply referred to as ‘Journey to the Mysterious Island’ by many, is the sequel to the engaging movie that was released in 2008, ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’. Even though oddly named, the movie excels in all aspects, right from the brilliant casting, to the captivating plot. The movie sets off where the previous one ended, as we see Sean Anderson emerging as a rebellious teenager- a sharp contrast to the young boy we had seen him as, and realize that he has undergone a huge transformation, and now suddenly has a deep sense of family. The central characters in the movie are Sean, his mother, his stepfather Hank, and Hank’s daughter (and Sean’s potential love interest), Kailani. Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens are paired opposite to each other and make for a rather interesting on-screen couple.

Download Journey 2 The Mysterious Island Movie

If you loved the prequel to the movie, then you must watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island online, because this movie brings all the adventure and fun that the previous one offered, and adds to it a new mix of romance, comedy and emotion, making it irresistible! The movie starts with Sean being at odds with his mom’s new boyfriend, who is desperate to bond with him. When Sean receives an encrypted message from an unknown sender, he seeks Hank’s help to decode it, and the message turns out to be “the island is real”, which Sean believes is his grandfather trying to send a signal to him. It turns out that Sean’s grandfather mysteriously disappeared on an island a few years back, never to return. Left with no other option, Sean concedes to taking Hank along on his mission to bring grandpa back home. What lies ahead, is pure, unbridled entertainment!

This is going to sound crazy, but when I originally saw the trailer for “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” I had no idea it was a sequel to 2008’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” Perhaps I would have known this had I been aware of Jules Verne’s novel “Mysterious Island,” but apart from my days as an English major and a brief binge on Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, I’ve never been much of a reader. I definitely prefer movies; apart from the general absence of exposition, the stories are literally visualized. Indeed, there’s much visualization at work in “Journey 2,” with heavy emphasis on exotic locations, fantastic creatures, and dynamic action sequences. There’s also the fact that the film is presented in 3D, as most films are nowadays. Not much is gained from the experience, apart from some gimmicky moments of things flying directly at the camera.

But I’m not saying anything I haven’t said a thousand times before. There are, in fact, only two sequences in which the 3D effects felt immersive, and fortunately, both take place on the titular island. One is an aerial pursuit that plays like a World War II dogfight on steroids. The other takes place in an underwater cave. I’ve noted in several reviews how underwater shots actually look better in 3D than those in open air. I haven’t quite figured out why this is. My theory is that the textural density of water fills every square inch of the screen, allowing for all the visuals to envelop you. Above water, you have only specific objects to focus your attention on, making total immersion difficult. The only genre more ideally suited for 3D than fantasy is animation; perhaps the filmmakers should have gone ahead and rendered the entire film on a computer.

Like its predecessor, “Journey 2” does not literally translate any work by Jules Verne. Instead, it uses them as a springboard for an original story, which this time around incorporates elements from Robert Louis Stevenson and Jonathan Swift. It’s also like its predecessor in that it’s a largely forgettable family film that has moments of likability. It has a decent enough cast and an adequate plot for younger audiences, although there are moments that made me wish the cast and crew had tried just a little harder. I wasn’t particularly impressed with its sense of humor, which is at times jarringly inconsistent with the film’s adventurous tone. I also didn’t care much for the casting of Luis Guzman, who spends the entire film being buffoonish comedy relief. Believe me when I say that his irritating character gets old real fast.

The plot involves Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson), now a rebellious teenager, receiving a radio message encoded with words and character names from the novels of Verne, Stevenson, and Swift. There to help him decode the message is his new stepfather, Hank Parsons (Dwayne Johnson), a former Navy officer. This character serves as a replacement for Sean’s uncle Trevor, played in the previous film by Brendan Fraser. His absence is not explained, but never mind. The message purports that the mysterious island of Verne’s story is real, and that the same location is described in Treasure Island and Gulliver’s Travels. Sean and Hank collect the three books and tear out the pages with maps of what appear to be three separate islands. When placed one on top of another, they form one complete map. They even provide coordinates.

Sean believes that his long lost grandfather has found the island, and that he’s responsible for sending the encrypted message. He’s determined to find the island himself, despite the fact that the coordinates point to an area where an island doesn’t appear to exist. Hank is willing to indulge, if only to give the two a chance to bond. They travel to the South Pacific island of Palau, and charter a helicopter flight with a local named Gabato (Guzman) and his daughter, Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens). The sudden appearance of a freak hurricane reminds Sean that they must go directly through its eye. And so, after a near-fatal freefall through a flurry of wind and rain, the four passengers come to on the shores of the Mysterious Island, also known as Atlantis. It’s a place where elephants are as small as cats, bees are as humongous as Cessnas, and the central volcano spews gold instead of lava.

Lo and behold, they soon cross paths with Sean’s grandfather Alexander (Michael Caine), a jungle adventurer of the Saturday matinée serial variety. He and Hank will spend most of the film bickering. Sean will repeatedly try to hit on Kailani. Hank will try to give Sean some advice about women, including the importance of flexing your pecs. And Gabato will constantly make a fool out of himself. When Hank realizes that the island is only days away from sinking due to tectonic plate shifting, they all make a mad dash for the outer cliffs, for hidden within an underwater cave is their only means of escape. I will not reveal what it is. I will say that, like everything else about “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” it’s kind of clever but mostly just preposterous. I suppose I had no reason to expect anything different, although I still think the filmmakers could have tried for a little more.

Brad Peyton’s upcoming 3D action-adventure film is a sequel to the 2008 hit film, Journey to the Center of the Earth.  Josh Hutcherson reprises his role of Sean Anderson, while new roles of his step-father, grandfather and his mother are played by Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine and Kristin Davis.  Sean receives a coded signal of distress from an island, the very existence of which is doubtful. A Journey 2: Mysterious Island download will depict Sean trying his best to make everybody around believe in the fact that he has been summoned. His step-father Hank Parson tries his best to hold him back, only to end up having to accompany him on the trip to the mysterious island in order to evacuate Sean’s grandfather Alexander Anderson to safety.Sean is in love with a tour guide Kailani, who apart from being a beautiful and a strong-willed woman, is the daughter of Gabato, a helicopter pilot, who accompanies Sean on his journey. Along with Kailani, Gabato, and Hank Parson, Sean embarks on his journey to this mysterious and devilish island that is nowhere to be found on the map.  As we watch Journey 2: Mysterious Island online stream , we expect Sean and his team to locate and help Alexander escape that island of gold mountains, dangerous volcanoes and strange forms of life.

“A Thousand Words” is a film that strains mightily to be both funny and heartfelt but never manages to be either. And yet, like an underachieving high school student, I could see the potential. I just know that buried somewhere within this narrative catastrophe is a rich, complex fable with the power to register emotionally. The points are all there; what’s missing is an appropriate, plausible way to make them. This could explain why the film was shelved after principal photography wrapped in 2008. The official reason for the delayed release is that it got lost in the shuffle when DreamWorks separated from Paramount and Viacom. While I have no doubt that this was a contributing factor, I can’t help but feel that the film itself created a whole host of problems, ones the producers were worried couldn’t be fixed. If this is the case, then it turns out they were right.

It tells the story of Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy), a Los Angeles literary agent. He’s mean-spirited, demanding, and manipulative, and he talks nonstop at a hundred miles an hour. He’s also a workaholic, although he makes it a point to not read the manuscripts he’s sent. In fact, he has devised a system of reading only the first five pages and the last five pages; if the first five establish reliable characters and marketable plot point, and if the last five resolve everything, it’s automatically a bestseller. All he really lives for is dressing sharply and making deals with other literary houses. He never listens to his wife, Caroline (Kerry Washington), who feels they should move away from their Hollywood Hills home into a more family friendly suburb for the sake of their infant son.

Currently, he’s looking to rope in a New Age guru named Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), a Deepok Chopra parody who claims to have written a book but has thus far been unwilling to sell it. Jack goes to Sinja’s ashram to work his magic, which involves underhanded tactics like saying he actually read the book. Somehow, Jack cuts his hand on the trunk of a Bodhi tree, which then magically transports itself into his backyard. It’s then determined that whatever happens to the tree will happen to Jack. Example: If it gets sprayed with water, Jack will break into a sweat, and if a pair of squirrels scurry up the trunk, it will tickle Jack’s body. And then there’s the matter of the leaves; every word Jack speaks or writes down results in the loss of one leaf. Sinja warns him that trees die whenever they lose all their leaves. Jack quickly learns that he must choose his words carefully – or not say anything at all.

This provides the setup for a number of situations that could have been funny had they not been so forced. There are several scenes with Jack’s tightly-wound assistant (Clark Duke), who at one point has to close a deal on Jack’s behalf at a lunch meeting; he takes the strategy of doing what Jack would do far too literally, talking like a black stereotype and making crude physical gestures. There are also several scenes with a Starbucks employee, who must interpret Jack’s exaggerated miming to fill his order. And then there’s a cameo by comedian John Witherspoon as a blind man who steps into an intersection even though it’s not his turn to walk yet. The oddest scene is when he sits in his therapist’s office; the therapist is so used to not getting a word in edgewise that he finds he has nothing to say. So they both just sit there making comical expressions. Never mind the fact that it’s never explained why Jack is in therapy at all.

And just like that, the film transitions from a manufactured slapstick comedy to a soppy drama. We meet Jack’s mother (Ruby Dee), who always mistakes her son for her late husband, the same man who left his family when Jack was only a boy. It seems that Jack has been holding on to a lot of anger over the years. How the filmmakers believed such overtly dramatic material like dementia and abandonment issues could work in a comedy, I have no idea. And then there’s Jack’s marriage, which had been falling apart for quite some time. It has only gotten worse since Jack was forced to stop speaking. All leads to a sappy, tearjerker ending that combines personal awakening with spiritual awareness. Too bad it comes too late in the story for us to care one way or the other.

But that’s the thing: We could have cared. I believe that if this story had been completely reworked as a dramatic parable, its lessons of letting go of the past and being open and attentive to your loved ones would have registered. As it is, they come off as greeting-card sentiments transplanted from an entirely different movie. Did the reshoots in 2011, a full three years after principal photography ended, contribute to this? Perhaps someone saw a rough cut of “A Thousand Words” and thought it was too silly for its own good. If that’s the case, I’m afraid more harm was done that good. This movie is an absolute mess. Perhaps it would have been a better idea to keep this film on the shelf and let it disintegrate into nothing but scraps of celluloid.

Brian Robbins in his latest dramedy introduces a plot that tends to unravel an inevitable comic explosion, when a human-being is forced to compromise on his most prominent ability in order to live on.  For Jack McCall, life depends on the gift of his gab, and it is words that help him earn a living as a literary agent. He is verbally gifted to an extent that no matter how dicey a deal turns into, he is confident of being able to close it anytime he wants to. As we watch A Thousand Words online, we find Jack talking day in day out to get his deals clicked, and earning enough acknowledgement for the same. A magician with words, Jack’s over-confidence does him in, as he targets Dr. Sinja, the New Age guru for selfish motives of his own. Riding on his fame from his verbal abilities, he does not realize his mistake, as he takes on the Guru.

Download A Thousand Words to find Dr. Sinja teaching him a lesson of a lifetime, by spelling a curse that eventually strips him off his very ability to churn magic verbally with words. Soon, Jack discovers a Bodhi Tree cropping out of nowhere in his backyard signaling magic that soon sucks out all happiness from his life. To his horror, he finds that with every word he speaks, a leaf falls from the tree, and he soon realizes that once the last leaf falls off the tree, both he and the Bodhi tree would perish, forever. Struck with such a crisis, Jack now knows that he can no more afford to speak in order to get his things done and thus Jacks comes up with hilarious and outrageous ways to communicate with the world. Every word out of his mouth now simply meant a step closer towards his end.

This deadly plot begins from Chechnya stretches to Mexican borders. The U.S. army goes from one place to another to uproot the global terror but it is not as easy as it sounds! If you are dying to explore more about the potentially unbelievable future of United States then you should watch Act of Valor online!

In 2007, the self-titled “Bandito Brothers,” Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy filmed a video for the US Navy’s Surface Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen that had actual US Navy SEALs in it. Both decided to make a film about SEALs but their SEAL advisors were so dismissive of the actors the directors hired to play SEALs that a unique idea was born: the use of actual active duty SEALs to portray themselves in an action film.

What results is unprecedented cooperation between the Department of Defense and a motion picture–going even further than Black Hawk Down’s mammoth support. Indeed, there probably has not been a movie like this since the Army Air Corps films of World War Two.

Lieutenant Rorke and Chief Dave lead a platoon of SEAL Team 7, based at Coronado. Rorke is going to be a father while Dave already has five kids. They are long time veterans of the Teams and close friends. Of course, Rorke and Dave are real SEALs. I’ve read on a blog that both are coming to the end of their real-life service and thus were not worried about exposing their identities in a film.

Meanwhile, a CIA agent (Roselyn Sanchez) is abducted in Costa Rica. She was tracking a Russian mafia arms dealer, Christo (Alex Veadov), who is selling weapons to narcotraffickers. Rorke’s platoon is sent into action. This is the first action set piece and it’s extremely impressive as the SEALs HALO into Costa Rica with the help of two Navy SWCCs and two Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment MH-47s. Like all of the action displayed in the movie, the SEALs themselves choreographed the action–the Bandito Brothers just filmed what the SEALs drew up. There’s nothing fake about how these operations are portrayed. How the Army deploys the two SWCCs is outstanding in and of itself. Well done to the Banditos for this part of the film.

The SEAL Platoon then discovers that Christo is supplying suicide vests to a Chechen Islamic terrorist named Shabal. Shabal intends to deploy sixteen Filipino Islamist terrorists through Mexico to major American cities to wreak havoc on the U.S. economy.

The remainder of the movie shows the SEALs, along with members of SEAL Team 4, scurrying around the world to stop Christo and Shabal–from Somalia to the Pacific to Mexican islands and then finally Mexicali.

This film has gotten panned by a lot of critics and this is not a surprise. Most movie critics are left wing and don’t appreciate many (any?) military movies. Is is true that the plot is not that complex and the dialog from Rorke and Dave is stilted at best. But these men aren’t trained actors. That said, Senior Chief Billy, another real SEAL, obviously has some acting skill and has way too much fun during his interrogation scene with a detainee.

But unlike Roger Ebert, I wasn’t looking for Olivier-like delivery of lines. What Rorke, Dave and their men do best is LOOK like real SEALs because they ARE real SEALs. They hold their weapons, move, and stack during Close Quarters Battle exactly as real life operators would. Black Hawk Down made an effort to teach its actors this but you still cannot truly replicate reality without real life operators.

The end firefight sequence is as good if not better than the ones in Black Hawk Down. Throughout the movie, we see camera shots from the perspective of a SEAL holding out his carbine. This is very effective as it gives you an idea of what CQB is like

This was the only military movie I can think of where I had not one major criticism about inaccurate uniforms, weapons, or equipment. A minor gripe was the SEALs using visual light laser pointers rather than IR ones, but this was probably done for the sake of the audience.

This was also only the second movie I can ever remember being at that when it ended, the entire theater was silent. The first time was Arlington Road which ended with a major twist. This time, it was because a list of all the SEALs killed since 9/11 was scrolled. There was no casual talking or laughter. It was as silent as a library.

The casual public won’t care too much about this film. Limousine liberals won’t like it. And I find it amusing that some are complaining that Call of Duty is better. Give me a break and get off your couch in your Mom’s basement.

If you have any interest in the *real* military you must see the film because few films have ever had this much realism. Certainly, I will not be able to look at any other future military movies displaying firefights without holding it to the standard set in this movie.

Plotwise, the movie is a *** star at best. Had it been a standard action movie star vehicle, it would have been okay but not standout. But due to the realism, it has to go ****.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is a satirical comedy based on a novel by Paul Torday. It revolves around the life of a fishery expert by the name of Dr. Alfred Jones. He is a scientist and his of specialization is that he sets up fisheries at different places according to the needs of the clients. He has worked at various locations but never has he ever imagined in his life that a proposal from Patricia Maxwell who works under the Prime Minister of Yemen is going to change his life forever. Watch Salmon Fishing in the Yemen online to find out that one of the sheikhs with who Patricia is working has come up with a business proposal that can transform the future of the Arab state (Yemen).

He wants to set up sports fishing complex in the middle of the desert, as he believes that this sport is going to improve the relations of the country with other nations. Alfred is reluctant in the beginning as he thinks that it is difficult, also he is going through a lot on the personal front. He is facing troubles in his marriage and to make matters worse the midlife crisis phenomenon is slowly creeping in. Eventually he agrees to the offer because Patricia is quite enthusiastic about it and he meets Harriet Chetwode-Talbot who is the gorgeous businesswoman working with the rich sheikh. Alfred gets ready to transform the desert into a place where diplomats and tourists would come and merrily fish and discuss important issues. As the outlandish project starts Alfred realizes that he is slowly falling for the Harriet. He is married and cannot think of cheating on his wife. Even Harriet has a guy in her life and as things unfold it all become a little messy for them. Will Alfred be successful in setting up the fishery? Will he be able to clear out the mess in his life?

With a title like Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, it’s either a story about the impossible, or that which deals with fishing. It’s thankfully the former which makes it a little more engaging and less of a focus on what could be a solitary activity, and a romance-comedy-drama that centers about the theme of hope, even though this British film has plenty of elements to keep one entertained, especially the good ol British wit and humour that comes fast and furious when the need calls for it.

Directed by Lasse Hallstrom whose last film was an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is based on the novel by Paul Torday, that tells the unlikely romance that sparked between Dr Fred Jones (Ewan McGregor) and investment consultant Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt) while working on a theoretically possible project funded by a rich Yemeni Sheikh Muhammad (Amr Waked). Dr Jones, the bureaucrat stuck in a dead end job and happily coasting along in spite of having useless superiors, is the initial skeptic, preferring the status quo than to question and set challenges for himself, being the expert on fishing and a mean fly-fisher himself, while Harriet is that can-do go-getting consultant who doesn’t take no for an answer, herself in a sub story arc involving a British soldier sent to the frontlines in Afghanistan.

Together, they work under a programme mooted by the Sheikh to bring salmon fishing to his country, which of course has plenty of detractors especially from extremists who see this as a waste of resources spent on infidel activities involving the West, especially so since Kristin Scott-Thomas’ thrash talking Bridget Maxwell, the publicist for 10 Downing Street, sees it as opportunity to raise the Anglo-Yemeni friendship and profile. The character of Bridget Maxwell is probably the one bringing in most of the laughs for her potty mouth ways, with expletives almost always finding their way into her communications, verbal, over the internet, or otherwise, and you’d wonder just how the Prime Minister’s Office could have survived one PR disaster after another.

Most of the narrative circled around the friendship and relations formed between the trio of Dr Jones, Harriet and the Sheikh, developing bonds that wouldn’t have existed if not for this 50 million pounds project. It’s not as if it is about those with plenty of oil money and finding themselves not knowing what to do with it, but about the spreading of far larger ideals that go into community bonding. And the romantic tale almost felt like an after thought into the second half, finding it irresistible not to have now fellow colleagues fall in love because it’s a waste of good looking talent not to. There isn’t any threat in the film to put things in a spin other than the battle against nature and elements that get systematically addressed, and extremists who don’t get air time lest this film gets spun into a war on terror story, aside from an assassination and sabotage attempt.

It’s been too long since Ewan McGregor played an Englishman, and one with impeccable manners at that, which is something his character will strike you from the onset, minding his Ps and his Qs, with the penchant for the prim and the proper. The subplot involving a slowly estranged wife was something seen coming since it stood in the way of a possible relationship with Emily Blunt’s Harriet, and essentially is a weak point in the narrative that could have been done without, since it added little emotional depth to the plot. Harriet on the other hand had an equally tit-for-tat plot arc that also didn’t do wonders for the story, and together they made it feel as if there was a need to throw each character into their respective romance (or lack thereof) arcs with someone else until work got in the way. It didn’t help of course when Kristin Scott-Thomas was in her element being cast against type.

ultimately it’s a feel good movie about hope and that leap of faith, so long as someone is funding a dream to fruition or failure. The more important central arc of fulfilling the titular dream was the most engaging, with sub plots being nothing more than a distraction that didn’t offer any emotional depth, and padded the story to a feature length one. Thankfully there’s comedy thrown in now and then, otherwise this would really have been like a solo fishing trip and attempt that calls for plenty of patience for something to finally bite.

British comedy at its creative best is on offer on Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which is a storyteller’s earnest attempt to portray Middle East in a different light from the crime and venal politics that it is infamous for. The movie is an adaptation of a novel by the same name, written by Paul Torday. As you download Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, you will find yourself embarking on a gripping tale of the power of the human will, shrouded by the ubiquitous political melodrama. The movie, which premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, has Lasse Hallström at its directorial helm. Its central character is a man, named Dr. Alfred Jones, who is portrayed by veteran actor Ewan McGregor. Jones is a middle-aged fisheries scientist, who works at the National Centre for Fisheries Excellence in London. He is going peacefully about his life, when a visionary sheikh in the Highlands of Yemen makes a massive offer to him, which has the potential to change his life.

The offer is to introduce and sustain the sport of salmon fishing in the fish-unfriendly desert that he lives in. Alfred turns down the offer, as he deems it an impossible task to do. However, the sheikh is not one to give up, and coaxes him into accepting the deal. Then on, there is no looking back, as he battles against all odds to make the impossible possible and finds himself embroiled in a political drama to glamorize the project, and hog the limelight for it. His relationship with Harriet Chetwode-Talbot, portrayed by Emily Blunt, adds a touch of warm romance to the film. I am a man of obsessions. For months, a movie I hadn’t seen was the thing. Not Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT, not Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS, not even the upcoming Sam Mendes directed James Bond movie SKYFALL (which I’m excited about but it hasn’t really sunk its hooks into me yet)…

No, it was Andrew Stanton’s JOHN CARTER.

My excitement was not the universal feeling. Disney advertising had dropped the ball and the trailers seemed lackluster to most. Yet something within directed me toward it like a compass points to True North. There was something special about it, something just out of view in the trailers that wouldn’t let me go. I trust my obsessions, always, but at some point I got to feeling a bit exhausted and just wanted to know if I was right or maybe a total loon.

I’ve now been to two advance screenings of JOHN CARTER.

And? Holy Living Thark! The bar on science fiction and fantasy movies has Officially Been Raised.

JOHN CARTER is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ A Princess of Mars –a novel first published a century ago. I expected to come out of the movie with my head full of comparisons to all the things Burroughs’ imagination inspired: STAR WARS, AVATAR, FLASH GORDON, etc. Understandably so, as I’m much more familiar with all of them. That didn’t happen. Put simply, if STAR WARS is a kids’ science fiction movie franchise that adults enjoy (and it is), then JOHN CARTER is an adult science fiction movie that kids will enjoy.

CARTER is such an immersing experience. Every moment reveals something new about Mars; about the exotic alien races and cultures that call it home, or about their individual characters. James Cameron’s AVATAR showed us a world we’ve never seen before and it was wondrous to behold, but Andrew Stanton’s JOHN CARTER is a movie so rich with detail that it left me feeling like I had been somewhere. JOHN CARTER feels like nothing so much than as if David Lean had made a science fiction epic of love and war set on Mars.

This movie has a confidence to it you won’t be expecting. It’s unafraid to linger over the characters, and give them time to breathe and reveal themselves. My favorite decade for movies is the 1960s, and JOHN CARTER has some of the epic adventure movies of that time running through it like a seam of gold. There’s a bit of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA in there as I alluded to before, and perhaps a touch of ZULU and SPARTACUS is mixed in with the Martian airships and predator cities. Old fashioned storytelling magic and 21st century movie sorcery have combined into a film that’s a pulp sci-fi masterpiece.

To the ERB faithful: please relax. Yes, there are changes from the novel; no, they are not the arbitrary changes made in inferior movie adaptations where the filmmaker just wants to do his/her own ideas. Every change is made to tell Burroughs’ story or reveal some aspect of Burroughs’ characters in a way more befitting a movie instead of a novel.

Going into this, I had absurdly high expectations. A friend of mine told me he was worried the movie wouldn’t live up to them and that frankly I was starting to sound a little crazy. Well, the movie went and exceeded my expectations. I love it, and give it a 10/10. I’m definitely going to see it at least six times in the theater, and will finally buy a Blu-Ray player just to watch it at home.

I realize this review sounds over the top. That’s just how excited I am about the movie. Perhaps in a previous life I was an ancient Greek by the name of Hyperboles? Anyway, see the movie. I guarantee that even if you don’t like it as much as I did, you’ll see where I was coming from with this gushing review.

Academy-acknowledged director, Andrew Stanton brings on a pure action-adventure film based on life in the red-soiled planet Barsoom (Mars). In the backdrop of the rocky red-soiled terrains of Barsoom, Andrew scripts out the plot based on Edgar Rice Burrough’s epic classic novel. Watch John Carter online to find events in the novel unfold against the strange background of outer-space. It all begins with a senior army veteran’s plan of experiencing life on Mars. All the action commences, when he lands on the surface of Mars to discover the planet to be way different from earthly expectations and imaginations. Contrary to all that he thought about the planet, he finds it to be a lush one with a lot of diversity, when it came to animal life. He comes across the 12-feet tall Barbarian, and a lot of other strange creatures that his worn-out and war-stressed spirit requires him to stay away from.

As we download John Carter, we find the military veteran witnessing huge conflicts within the strange races of creatures, as he decides to distance himself from them. On further exploration, he comes across a mesmerizing princess, Dejah Thoris, who with much difficulty makes him understand that all that she needed at the moment is a savior. As he dives deeper into problems that engulf the princess, he realizes the strength of his gift of humanity, and the powers it bestows upon him on another planet. It is humanity within him that glows and forces his soul to chuck his carefree attitude and take on the responsibility to protect Deja Thoris, the princess of Helium, and a few other creatures of Barsoom before they perish, forever.

Download Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Movie | Download & Watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Online for Free

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is one of the most phenomenal animated works ever to be projected on the big screen. The movie is an adaptation of the children’s novel by the same name, written by the deceased and highly acclaimed author, Dr. Seuss. The movie’s release date coincides with the 108th death anniversary of the writer, making it a tribute of sorts to the legacy that he left behind. If you wish to be a part of this honorary celebration, starring the likes of Zac Efron and Taylor Swift, you can watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax online to do so. The movie follows the escapades of its central character, a young boy named Ted, as he sets off on an unlikely mission, in search of a real tree. While that may sound as an easy task in the world that we live in, it is a herculean task in the city of “Thneed-Ville”, which is home to Ted.

The city’s peculiarity is that it is sealed from the real world, and the only thing that is not artificial in it is its people. That is why, Ted’s love interest, a lovely girl named Audrey, expresses her greatest wish as the desire to see a real tree. The movie amidst all its fun and 3D frolic, gives us a rather grim glimpse into what the world ahead is likely to be, if we mercilessly keep axing the trees and depleting forests around us. With the fuzzy, yellow creature The Lorax serving as Ted’s sole companion in his challenging mission, and the shady mayor of Thneed-Ville, O’Hare leaving no stone unturned to wreak havoc over their efforts, the movie is packed with thrill galore!

Download Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Movie

I went to see this movie with two girl friends of mine. Throughout the movie, one of them kept groaning and sighing at the same parts I did. The other later accused us of never having been kids. I think they might both be right.

If you were ever a child, you are probably familiar with Doctor Seuss’s ‘The Lorax’, a tale of a world where man’s greed and selfishness has eradicated all the trees in favor of their escapist man-made town. It’s a charming yet somewhat depressing book as the main character realizes what he’s destroyed, yet leaves a glimmer of hope at the end as he passes off the last tree seed to a young boy to plant. As a kid, I loved the bittersweet end, as it got the message across and made me want to care about preserving nature.

The movie, on the other hand, left me thoroughly unimpressed. Let me get the good parts out of the way first. Naturally, the art style is fantastic and whimsical, as all Seuss work is. Danny Devito does a great job as the Lorax, and I feel it’s pretty safe to say that the parts of the story actually focusing on the Lorax himself were indeed enjoyable. That is, with the exception of a badly placed musical number, which makes any sorrow at the trees being destroyed seem diluted. You should be upset that the Lorax leaves us, but I was more upset that I WASN’T upset.

Unfortunately, the part of the story focusing on the boy trying to find a tree was tiresome. It’s a case where the book was more dramatic than the story – nature had been ravaged, and nobody cared about it except for one boy. In the movie, it’s basically all because of some horribly stereotyped evil characters – Once-ler himself is painted as naive but still a good person, but the creators apparently didn’t want him to seem corrupt in chopping down all the trees so they have his redneck family do it for him. And the business tycoon Mr. O-Hare is just ridiculously evil. I’m not going to say that big businessmen shouldn’t be villains or anything like that , but the point of the original book was that all of mankind had stopped caring, whereas the movie says it’s the fault of Once-ler and O’hare entirely, the latter of who deliberately is keeping people clueless about trees. I just feel the ending would have been far more dramatically appropriate if, instead of having a cliché’d (and underwhelming) chase scene where he shows everybody O’hare is evil, if he instead needed to actually CONVINCE people that trees were worth caring about (he convinces them by knocking down a wall at the end. Apparently in the last 15 or so years nobody had even once looked outside.) Additionally, when he finally plants the seed, all the other trees start growing again. Not sure how, but it makes me wonder – if that’s all it took, why didn’t Once-ler try to plant the seed 15 years ago?

Also, they throw in a ‘hip grandmother’ pretty much entirely because they know grandparents will be taking their kid. At one point the romantic interest actually says ‘Wow, how cool is your grandmother’. This bothered me for some reason. Perhaps because I have no soul.

Also, it’s apparently a musical, something that the ads failed to mention. I’m not against musicals, but the combined fact that 1.) i wasn’t prepared for that (Despicable Me, their previous movie, had none) and 2.) the music was… bland. I can’t remember any of it and i just got out 20 minutes ago. Also, as I said earlier, one musical number completely ruins the tragic mood it tried to set with the trees getting chopped down.

I know that it can be hard translating a Seuss book, usually with only 20 or 30 pages, into a feature film is a tough task. But honestly, if you don’t even get the theme right then you have failed in your task. Lorax is enjoyable in a lot of parts, but the parts that aren’t AREN’T.

Final verdict: 5/10. Your kids might like it, but the uninspired music, botched ending, and boring finale are real game breakers.

This computer animated 3D film released by Universal pictures and produced by Illumination Entertainment is based on the eponymous book for children by Dr. Seuss. Beginning on the note of love, the film rolls on to revolve around the life of TRed, a young boy, filled with ideals and emotions dwelling in the city of Thneed-Ville. As we watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax online, we get to know that apart from its inhabitants, everything else that the city comprised was artificial. He finds his soul grappling with love for this young lady, Audrey, who eventually turns into the girl of his dreams with an inherent passion for real trees. He decides to grow the finest of trees for his love and to fulfill her dream, embarks on a search for seeds. Soon he realizes that the entire city has been cut off from the outside world and seeks the assistance of the lonely character, Once-ler.

Download Sr. Seuss’ The Lorax movie to hear the recluse narrating his encounter with the charming yet grumpy guardian of the land, Lorax. The moment the young businessman introduces a rebellious invention from the tufts of the native Truffula Tree, serious overproduction takes place, causing depletion to the forest and isolation of Ted’s hometown. Ted is motivated after hearing the whole story to an extent that with the last Truffula Seed, and blessings of Once-ler, Ted moves out to remind people of his town, the important of taking care of and preserving nature. On his way, Ted finds a lot of hatred in store for Lorax within the Mayor and his close accomplices, who knit together a barrier that Ted has to push aside in order to turn successful in his objective.

You would not believe it even if you saw it with your own eyes. A sober Irishman? A thin Greek? A game-sealing shot by Lebron in the fourth? Even rarer…it’s a half-decent reboot! A reimagining of the more serious 1980s young adult crime drama of the same name, 21 Jump Street lends a comedic touch to the otherwise dreary world of underground drug trafficking. Starring an odd couple with a difference in Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the film mostly follows the standard buddy-cop formula but deviates enough to both keep your interest and produce a handful of laughs.

Seven years ago, two kids on opposite ends of the social spectrum graduated from high school. The popular Jenko (actor’s name omitted for obviousness) and overweight, nerdy Schmidt (same here) both enrol in the local police force and form a friendship, helping each other pass the course. Now fully-fledged police officers, the clueless duo are kicked out of the force and into a top-secret program, where younger-looking officers are again enrolled in high school in order to bring down a syndicated drug ring.

By a long margin, the film’s best quality is its willingness to make fun of itself. Granted, the backbone of the plot is predictable enough, but gag-wise, this movie has its moments. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) take pleasure in playing off cemented audience expectations (that is, a few laughs, a gunfight or two and a couple of explosions) before even the first trailer has begun, and subsequently subverting these conventions wherever they see fit.

Essentially, they refuse to play by the rules, which can be comedy gold when used correctly. A rogue motorbike spitting sparks across the freeway collides with an oil tanker and nothing happens. That same bike runs into a pickup truck carrying a load of chickens and a deafening explosion ensues. The irony of having a man who once made a generous living badmouthing authority play a typically surly, by-the-book cop isn’t lost on most, and it is Ice Cube’s sheer assertion of himself as a stereotype that makes the role work. The cameos by a couple of members of the original series are good fun too.

Speaking of making roles work, Hill reverts back to his Superbad roots with his performance, but it is Tatum who is surprisingly funny as the dim-witted do-gooder Jenko. Just when it looks like he has become irreversibly typecast as either an action hero or soppy teen idol, he comes up big in a comedy, impressing with his stone-faced delivery and interplay with his far more comedically experienced co-star. While under the influence in a certain scene, Tatum utters the film’s funniest one-liner, and a quote sure to be repeated in many a school and university from now on.

That said, it is the physical aspect of the comedy that outdoes the script here, and while that is no criticism of the stunt work or set pieces, a lack of somewhat more layered humour leaves the film feeling hollow; failing to live up to its full potential. The opening act is particularly burdensome. Apart from a couple of laughs during the attempted arrest of some bikers in a public park, the film proceeds to drag its feet, vainly looking for ways to intertwine jokes with storytelling until the pair are shipped off to Jump Street.

Other parts of the film still feel done to death, again a mark against the film’s reluctance to go all-out in an effort to produce something truly original. It could have done without the love interest for the loser, made all the more disconcerting as it is a love between a high schooler and a grown man. Although Schmidt and Jenko start off as friends, their falling out/moment of clarity/reconciliation can be seen coming a mile away, occurring too late in the film and needlessly slowing down the second half. Yet, if you’re expecting an utter disaster, like this particular viewer was, you might just leave surprised.

21 Jump Street, an action-packed crime drama that spins around young police officers, Schmidt and Jenko, who take a decision to control youth crime. To uncover a secret drug panel, both of them don themselves as high school students, but still, things are not as easy as they seem. The real game begins when Schmidt and Jenko leave all the ongoing projects of the police department to catch people behind the drug cartel that is spoiling youth. For unraveling these drug suppliers, they get ready to relive a life which is full of unpredictable challenges and events. They pack their bags and put their lives at stake to catch the drug lords. Another interesting turn takes place when they enter school; it is not as happening as it used to be. There were some issues that they left untouched before, but all these issues reappear and take a horrible turn.

They believe that all the issues have been left behind but someone is still waiting for them with some exciting challenges. They are completely unaware of all these things! Watch 21 Jump Street online to find out what happens next! The movie is packed with many interesting life turning events where the officers relive all the moments, which are packed with revenge, romance and retribution. I can only think of one other movie where Julia Roberts is cast in a negative role. When news broke out that Roberts will play the evil queen in this Grimm’s fairy tale adaptation, I just couldn’t resist. Let’s face it, it’s not everyday you get to see the most popular actress in the world (with the best smile in Hollywood) play an evil and conniving character. In this version, the story remains true to original, if not with a wacky twist and a lot of humor.

After the king disappears under mysterious circumstances, Snow White (Lily Collins) learns that her step-mother the queen (Roberts) has been plundering and looting from the people of the land. After rescuing a prince (Armie Hammer)from seven ‘little’ highway bandits, and gaining his affection, Snow White is banished to the forest when the queen sees wealth and power in the guise of the unwitting prince; besides his use as her toy-boy. Snow White must now team up with the aforementioned bandits and win back her birthright, her prince, and restore her father’s kingdom to its former glory. Thus begins an itchy cat-fight with a capital B.

Having just watched this movie, I can’t say that this is the best adaptation thus far, given its PG classification. However, considering that there are two other versions slated for a 2012 release, including a darker version starring the emotionless Kristen Stewart, I am forced to say that “Mirror Mirror” suffices as a decent family adventure-comedy. Having cut a niche for himself in visual esthetics and art design, director Tarsem Singh creates a vivid and colorful world with innovative sets and costumes – a standard that is rapidly becoming his cinematic insignia after his work from “The Cell” to last year’s “Immortals”. Singh also scores with intended comic relief, given that he has had to work with a story where the audience knows what to expect. When you consider the story’s comic backbone complete with slapstick moments, Roberts’s sarcastic one-liners arising from a witty script and the ever amusing Nathan Lane as the queen’s royal subject, this movie becomes a lighthearted stab at one of the oldest and most adapted fairy tales. That said, this version sits well with the intended audience in its narration, if you go in expecting a simple and entertaining movie.

I really can’t say that I was captivated by the acting. Collins as Snow White and Hammer as the prince are just so-so as protagonists of an age old tale. Given the age of ‘girl power’, it is no surprise that Snow White here is a spirited young girl that not even for a moment, appears to be a damsel in distress. On the other hand, the prince is comical in almost all scenes, stripping (pun unintended) his character of any chivalry from the original tale. As the movie is narrated in the queen’s perspective, it becomes apparent that the story is less about Snow White and more about the queen and her vanity. This chain of thought is what gives “Mirror Mirror” a new spin to the old yarn. Personally, I strongly feel that Julia Roberts steals the show – not because I expected her to – but simply because the story appears to have been scripted with a lot of focus on her character. It’s almost as if this version was written by the evil queen herself.

For the most part, Singh’s work here is a tad bit above average in re-telling a grand old tale. He keeps it simple while giving it a fresh and anti-Disney twist. Then he goes and ruins it with a totally unnecessary and bizarre Bollywood ending. I mean, seriously? If Singh has used this movie to say something about his roots, then he has picked the wrong movie to do so. Mixing Hollywood and Bollywood themes within the same movie is always risky. Danny Boyle may have gotten away with it in “Slumdog Millionaire” because of its theme on poverty and the hugely popular underdog factor. All said and done, if it were not for Snow White doing the “Bhangra”, I would have easily rated this film as a good start to 2012. Even so, if you are willing to overcome your disbelief in the end, the greater part of this movie is not half as bad.

This movie reignites those queries which might have left after the narration of legendary fairy tale, Snow White. The story begins with a wicked queen who steals the control of an empire of a spirited orphan and also the attention of a beautiful prince. The real game begins when the Snow White’s beauty steals the heart of the prince with her charming beauty. Before they could enjoy the bliss of love, the enchantress sends the innocent princess to the forest. She not only sends away the princess but also makes an attempt to woo the prince with the help of her fake charm and magic. Will the Prince be able to understand the trap which is smartly laden by the enchantress? What compels him to trust the enchantress? You can watch Mirror Mirror online to find out how the creators have re-narrated the old tale of fantasy. On the other hand, a famished beast has been waiting desperately for food for really long time.

Will the man eating devil eat the beautiful young Princess? Have the creators give a new turn to the classic tale? Luckily, a few diminutive robbers appear to save the girl, like a legendary tale, after few years, the Princess turns into a young woman. Will she be able to save herself from the clasps of the queen who has been finding her day and night? Download Mirror Mirror to discover more about the classic tale that is renewed in contemporary style. The movie is packed with several jaw-dropping moments and magic that can certainly catch the attention of the contemporary audience.

I suppose the really bad 3D effects in the Clash of the Titans remake two years ago made me steer really clear of yet another post-production 3D conversion effort in this follow up sequel, and going by the looks of it, there isn’t really much to provide that depth of field, nor effort in the way it’s shot to exploit the 3D format, other than to rake in extra dollars since the 2010 version did so to have green lit this total imaginary Greek mythology scribed by Greg Berlanti, David Johnson and Dan Mazeau, who between them have written stuff like Green Lantern, Orphan, and Red Riding Hood. But one thing’s for sure, gone is the direction and focus on pure action, and in comes a semblance of a stronger storyline.

The theme about fathers and sons cannot be more pronounced in Wrath of the Titans, set 10 years after the first film, that harks back to the Greek mythology origins of the splitting of powers between Zeus (Liam Neeson), Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston) when they condemn their father Cronos into the depths of Hell, and Zeus having to play Hades out by making the latter lord of the underworld. So the balance of power has remained as such, until Zeus walks into a trap as planned by Hades and Zeus’ son Ares (Edgar Ramirez) the god of War because of his jealousy of Perseus (Sam Worthington), the new favoured son of Zeus. With Zeus entrapped to sap his life force and powers for Cronos, the plan is to release Cronos back into the world to destroy everything in the known universe.

The saviour is of course demi god Perseus, who now is a father to Helius (John Bell), his son with now deceased wife Io, conveniently written out because of Gemma Arterton’s non participation, and to steer the romance in this fable back to between Perseus and Queen Andromeda, who’s now Warrior Queen and played by Rosamund PIke. And Perseus can’t save the world alone because he’s only a half-god up against the might of Ares, Hades and Cronos, so he has to team up with another demi god, the son of Poseidon, Agenor (Toby Kebbell), who will lead them to Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), who holds the key to safe passage to the Underworld where Zeus is imprisoned. The quest this time, as you can see, is kept quite linear and straightforward, which makes it extremely easy to follow as the dots get connected in the most simplest of fashion, keeping in constant reminder of the theme that deals with the squabbles between family members, and fights between envious siblings.

And not only is the story kept simple, the battle scenes here were also cleanly designed without complication, unleashing new beasts yet to be seen in the Clash of the Titans film, involving ugly two-headed hounds from hell, battles with one eyed cyclops, and of course, big daddy himself who seemed more smoke and mirrors, especially since the strategy involves something that’s very close to Star Wars’ destruction of the Death Star. I can’t fathom why there are so many complaints about the big minotaur fight unless you’re watching the film really close to the screen. Some easter eggs continue from the first film, such as the presence of mechanical owl Bubo, and Pegasus having a little bit more personality though still sidelined as being nothing more than air transportation.

Sam Worthington looked like he’s enjoying much of the adventures of Perseus this time round, playing the man who walked away from his new found fame as the Kraken slayer, to return once again from his life of being a simple fisherman, and taking up arms and fight to save the world against the titans in the film (collectively inclusive of the other monsters in the film). With the gods severely weakened because nobody prays to them, the role of Perseus and Agenor, for slight comic relief, may pave the door to follow up films that deal more with demi gods than those residing in Mount Olympus. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes had a lot more to do here also in expanded roles, with the final act providing the opportunity for one last hurrah that is surprisingly moving.

Perhaps the miscast here would be Rosamund Pike’s Andromeda, with the idea of a Warrior Queen being a departure from Andromeda’s usual role of the damsel in distress, but this film still being more testosterone suited instead. She doesn’t get to do much given her very human abilities, and is there as token romantic interest with a romance that isn’t strong to begin with, coupled with a sagging mid-section that involves hallucination en route to the Underworld that got abandoned before it even begun for her character. Her troopers too in the final battle scene didn’t get to do much despite much posturing for nothing, and were relegated to mere cheer leaders for the most part, grateful that someone else had stepped up to the plate and did their fighting for them instead.

Still, if compared to the rather disastrous Clash of the Titans 2 years ago, Wrath of the Titans is a leg up in terms of storytelling, and didn’t have an albatross of the superbly nostalgic 1981 version hanging around its neck to be compared to. The fights also didn’t get obsessed with wanting to be bigger, faster and more CG-laden, and the combination of a more focused plot and theme, with better designed battles that adhered to the mantra of keeping it simple, proved to be a winner for this follow up. Recommended for being that far out, imaginary modern take on Greek mythology that played on the what-if scenario.
